Portugal's President Anibal Cavaco Silva was re-elected in a first round of voting Sunday with up to 58 percent of the vote, according to Portuguese television projections.
Cavaco Silva obtained between 51.6 and 58 percent of the vote, ahead of his main rival, poet Manuel Alegre, who took 17.1 to 21 percent, according to projections from public channel RTP and private channel SIC.
