Following his win over Ryan Bader on Saturday night, Jon Jones was officially offered and then promptly accepted a shot at Mauricio “Shogun” Rua with the UFC light heavyweight title up for grabs.

On Monday, the UFC officially announced the new event for UFC 128 now titled Shogun vs. Jones.

Jones also tweeted via his official Twitter account a picture of him signing his bout agreement for the March 19 fight.

“My goal is to be considered the best light heavyweight fighter in the world,” Jones said. “I feel as if it’s my time. My confidence is already high, I’m already in shape and I have six weeks to make myself even better. I can’t wait for this opportunity.”

The champion meanwhile revealed over the weekend that the first replacement for an injured Rashad Evans was for former Pride foe Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to step in and take the slot. Jackson declined, and now Jones will get his chance to take home the 205lb title instead.

“I’ve been training hard for a fight on this date and I was prepared to fight Rashad,” Rua said. “I face this new challenge as motivation to train even harder. I’m a fighter and I don’t pick opponents. I’ll be ready for Jon Jones.”

The bout will headline the March 19 card taking place at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
