Sony Screen Gems is all about VFX heavy genre films, which is why they've unloaded Legion and the forthcoming TokyoPop adaptation Priest. But as the Resident Evil films wind down (or gear up for a reboot), Screen Gems has a new franchise on their mind.
In hopes of kickstarting its newest genre franchise, Screen Gems has purchased feature film rights to vidgame publisher Capcom's hit series Devil May Cry, reports Variety.
Kyle Ward has been hired to pen the script, which revolves around the character of Dante, who avenges his mother's murder by killing off demons.
Franchise was originally developed as the third installment of the "Resident Evil" games -- another Capcom property. However, once the game's design wound up veering too far from "Resident Evil's" style, Capcom decided to launch the title as an original property. "Devil" has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.
