TICKETS FOR UFC ON FOX 6 AND UFC 156 ON SALE TO GENERAL PUBLIC TODAY
BY MATT ERICKSON ON NOV 30, 2012 AT 9:30 AM ET
Tickets for a pair of UFC events on back-to-back weekends go on sale to the general public today.
"UFC on FOX: Johnson vs. Dodson" takes place Jan. 26 at United Center in Chicago, while "UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar," the promotion's annual Super Bowl weekend pay-per-view, takes place at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Tickets for UFC on FOX 6 range in price from $40 to $250, plus fees, and are available Friday starting at 11 a.m. ET (10 a.m. local time in Chicago). Tickets for UFC 156 range from $75 to $750, plus fees, and go on sale to the public at 3 p.m. ET (noon PT). Ticketmaster and the venue box offices handle the sale, as usual.
UFC on FOX 6 will be the promotion's first network broadcast in 2013 and returns to the same site as UFC on FOX 2, which also took place in Chicago on the same January weekend in 2012. That particular Saturday serves as an off week for the NFL in between its conference championship games and the Super Bowl.
The card will be headlined by a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson (16-2-1 MMA, 4-1-1 UFC) and top contender John Dodson (14-5 MMA, 3-0 UFC). It will be Johnson's first defense of the title since winning the belt in a split decision against Joseph Benavidez at UFC 152 in September. It will be the second straight FOX card to feature a title fight following next week's UFC on FOX 5 card and a lightweight title bout between champ Benson Henderson and Nate Diaz.
UFC on FOX 6 also will feature former light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (32-10 MMA, 7-4 UFC) in what he has said will be his last UFC fight. He'll meet heavy-handed Brazilian Glover Teixeira (19-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in a bout that originally was scheduled for UFC 153. And lightweight standouts Donald Cerrone (19-4 MMA, 6-1 UFC) and Anthony Pettis (15-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will finally square off in what is likely to be a title eliminator.
The card also will feature a possible featherweight title eliminator between Erik Koch (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Ricardo Lamas (12-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC), the featherweight debut of Chicago-area native Clay Guida (29-13 MMA, 9-7 UFC) against Hatsu Hioki (26-5-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and Chicago police officer Mike Russow (15-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC), who meets Shawn Jordan (13-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC).
UFC 156 features a featherweight title fight between champ Jose Aldo (21-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (14-3-1 MMA, 9-3-1 UFC). Aldo has been out since a UFC 142 knockout of Chad Mendes in his native Brazil. He was scheduled to return against Koch at UFC 149 in July, but was forced out with an injury. The fight was rebooked for UFC 153, but Koch was forced out and replaced by Edgar. Then a month before the fight, Aldo was injured in a motorcycle accident, delaying his return yet again.
Additional main-card fights include former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem (36-11 MMA, 1-0 UFC) vs. former EliteXC titleholder Antonio Silva (17-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC); former champion Rashad Evans (17-2-1 MMA, 12-2-1 UFC) and veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (20-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC); and perennial contender Jon Fitch (24-4-1 MMA, 14-2-1 UFC) against Brazilian submission ace Demian Maia (17-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC), who is 2-0 since dropping to welterweight.
