DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 2
Welcome to Week 2 of 2013. This week we got the first full week of 2013, with the 1st episode of Raw. We also got the 1st Pay-Per-View of the year, with TNA Genesis. But first a little house cleaning from last week. I’ve decided to make the Gauntlet Match from last week’s Main Event count as 1 match. Even though the bell rang in between falls, WWE counted it as 1 match, so to make things easier here, I will count it as only 1 match, therefore Wade Barrett’s record is fixed, as he gets a loss for that match and only Kofi Kingston gets the win, since he was the last winner. Now, to this week’s news & notes.
On Raw, we had the 1st episode for 2013. It gave us 2 Title Matches, as the Diva’s & WWE Championships were on the line. This brings the total to 5 Title Matches overall and 5 for WWE. Kaitlyn’s victory over Eve Torres by Count Out was the 1st Count Out of the year. We also had our 1st Re-Match of January, as this was the 2nd time that The Great Khali wrestled Antonio Cesaro. They previously wrestled on Main Event on January 3. The TLC Match between Ryback & CM Punk was the 4th Gimmick Match of the year, and 3rd for WWE. It was CM Punk’s 1st title defense in 2013 and his 1st defense since Survivor Series on November 18.
On Main Event, we had the 4th match between Sheamus & Dolph Ziggler, but this was the 1st time they wrestled in 2013. In all 4 of their matches, they have yet to have a pinfall, as their previous encounters ended by Disqualification and now their match ended by Count Out. This is the 2nd straight WWE show to have a Count Out. The other match saw Wade Barrett defeat Zack Ryder. This was Barrett’s 2nd week in a row to wrestle on Main Event, continuing his streak from 2012 of having the most matches on Main Event.
On NXT, we saw the debut of The Wyatt Family in tag team action. We now have a 1st name for Rowan, as last year he was just Rowan. He’s now known as Erick Rowan. NXT gave us Epico & Primo defeating the team of Bo Dallas & Michael McGillicutty. This was Epico & Primo’s 1st win since August 30 on Superstars when they defeated The Usos. We also saw our 6th Title Match of the year, and 6th for WWE, as Big E. Langston defeated Seth Rollins to become the new NXT Champion. This was the 2nd week in a row that the NXT Title was on the line and it was the 1st Title Change of 2013. Also, the match was a No Disqualification Match, becoming the 5th Gimmick Match of the year and 4th for WWE.
On Superstars, there was nothing of note besides the fact that this was the 1st time that Brodus Clay & Zack Ryder teamed up. This was also the 2nd week in a row that Brodus Clay wrestled on Superstars.
On Impact, we saw their 2nd Gimmick Match of the year and 6th overall, as we had a Mixed Tag Team Match between Robbie T & Miss Tessmacher and Jesse & Tara. Impact gave us the debuts of Jay Bradley & Brian Cage, as they wrestled each other in a Gut Check Challenge. This was the 1st time that 2 Gut Check contestants wrestled each other instead of a contracted TNA Talent. Jeff Hardy & James Storm defeated Austin Aries & Bobby Roode by Disqualification, giving us the 2nd week in a row that Impact has had a Disqualification. Since Earl Hebner never rang the bell to start the match, Kurt Angle VS Mr. Anderson does not count, so neither man gets a win or a loss. Also, Sting defeated the yet unnamed member of The Aces & Eights. We know he is the man formally known as Mike Knox, but since TNA has yet to give him a name and only referred him as “the Big Guy From Aces & Eights”, I will continue to call him The Aces & Eights Member #1.
On Smackdown, we saw the 1st Disqualification for Smackdown, as Randy Orton defeated Antonio Cesaro. We saw the 2nd Mixed Tag Team Match for the week and 2nd week in a row for Smackdown, as AJ Lee & Dolph Ziggler defeated The Great Khali & Natalya. This was the 6th Gimmick Match of the year and 5th for WWE. There were 2 more Gimmick Matches added to our count, bringing the total to 9 overall and 7 for WWE, as we saw Sheamus defeat 3MB in a 3-on-1 Handicap Match and Alberto Del Rio defeated The Big Show in a Last Man Standing Match. This was the 1st time that both matches occurred this year. Also, the Last Man Standing Match for the World Heavyweight Championship was the 6th Title Match of the year and 6th for WWE. With Del Rio becoming the new Champion, it was the 2nd Title Change of the year and the week.
On Saturday Morning Slam, we saw the SMS debuts of Randy Orton & Damien Sandow. Also, for the 1st time since October 6, only 1 match took place.
This week, we had our 1st Pay-Per-View of 2013, with TNA Genesis. We had 3 Title Matches added to our list, bringing the Title Match count to 10 overall and 3 for TNA. This was the 1st time the TNA World Heavyweight, X-Division, & Tag Team Titles were defended this year. Also, 2 Gimmick Matches were added to the count bringing the total to 11 overall and 4 for TNA, as we had a Knockout’s Gauntlet Match and a 3-Way Elimination Match. As mentioned earlier, the Gauntlet Match is counted as only 1 match instead of 5 separate matches. So, Velvet Sky gets the win, while Miss Tessmacher, ODB, Mickie James, & Gail Kim all get a loss. Also, we had the 1st time a wrestler had to compete twice as Christian York defeated Kenny King to earn a shot at X-Division Champion Rob Van Dam in the same night, which he lost.
