Despite advertising the start of the tournament during RAW two weeks ago, a decision was made within WWE to kill the planned Intercontinental Cup tournament scheduled to take place on the Main Event show. A variety of WWE stars were announced for the tournament and nothing was taped involving the tournament that Tuesday.
Current WWE Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett sent out a tweet (in character) confirming the tournament was no more. It isn’t known if WWE has plans to bring it back down the line. According to sources, there was at least some discussion about having the Main Event show be based around the Intercontinental title in the same way RAW focuses on the WWE Championship and SmackDown focuses on the World Heavyweight Championship.
