TV Ratings: 'Modern Family' and 'CSI' Rise, Mixed 'Idol' Wins Wednesday

"Law & Order: SVU," "Survivor" and "The Middle" are among other growers, as the Fox competition loses some of the key demo -- but recoups nearly 1 million viewers.

Fox and American Idol took another Wednesday with adults 18-49 (4.1 rating) and total viewers (14.2 million). And while the series was down two tenths of a point from last week's demo score, it was up by 800,000 viewers.

Closest competition CBS averaged a 2.5 rating with adults 18-49 and 10.2 million viewers. The network started the night with a boosted Survivor (2.5 adults), up a tenth of a point from last week's premiere. Criminal Minds (2.7 adults) was down a tenth of a point from its last original, tying a series low, while CSI (2.5 adults) jumped four tenths of a point.

ABC saw boosts for most of its comedy block, with The Middle (2.2 adults) up three tenths of a point and The Neighbors (1.9 adults) up two tenths of a point. Modern Family (3.9 adults) was up by a tenth before Suburgatory (2.0 adults) saw a dip at 9:30 p.m. Katie Couric's 20/20 Oscar special pulled just a 1.3 rating with adults 18-49. The network averaged a 2.1 rating in the demo and 6.8 million viewers.

Whitney (1.1 adults) was off by a tenth of a point to tie a series low, while Guys With Kids (1.1 adults) held its lead and rose a tenth of a point from last week. Law & Order: SVU (1.7 adults) was boosted two tenths of a point from last Wednesday's score before an even Chicago Fire (1.9 adults) finished the night. NBC averaged a 1.5 rating with adults 18-49 and 5.1 million viewers.

Arrow (0.9 adults) was down by two tenths of a point from last week's ratings. Supernatural (0.9 adults) was also down, but only by one tenth. The CW averaged a 0.9 rating with 18-49-ers and 2.7 million viewers.

Univision averaged a 1.6 rating with adults 18-49 and 3.9 million viewers.
