Facebook blocks its own website for mobile developers

While Facebook was working on its new mobile app, executives found that a certain website was hindering employees' ability to maximize productivity: Facebook. According to Facebook product manager Josh Williams, he and several other developers had their web access to the social network shut down during development of the site's mobile app. "Basically it forced us to use only mobile devices for a week," said Williams. "It forced us to say, 'Hey, we have these features that exist in one place but not in another, and we have to remedy.'" Sure, it's probably a good idea to force your mobile developers to use the app, but it couldn't have hurt productivity to keep them from obsessively checking their timelines while at work, either.
