Ryback ended Monday's Raw by attacking John Cena, a move that sets up a future match and rivalry between them while Cena's ideal adversary sat backstage, inactive again.

Antonio Cesaro is a better wrestler, better talker and better fit as Cena's enemy than Ryback. Instead of it being him to challenge the newly-crowned WWE champ, Cesaro has been asked to warm the WWE bench.

In terms of the current narrative, Ryback makes sense as Cena's foe.

It was Cena who last eliminated Ryback from the Royal Rumble. Cena and Ryback were both involved in the triple threat match against CM Punk at Survivor Series 2012. Thanks to The Shield, Ryback never got an uninterrupted shot at the title.

With all that to build on, there's no surprise that WWE went in this direction.

Ryback, though, can't deliver the quality of matches or promos that Cesaro would have in his stead. Cesaro is far more well-rounded in the ring. He infuses power with mat wrestling with a throwback sense of ring psychology.

In their match on Tribute to the Troops, one can see a glimpse of how Cesaro is able to lead the action.

Cena works best with someone who can play this role, someone who can take control of the fight, allowing Cena to throw in bursts of offense. That's why his matches with CM Punk, Edge and Shawn Michaels were all so good.

Ryback is more one-dimensional.

He offers full-throttle power and little else. That skill set works well as a contrast to the right opponent, but Cena doesn't fall into that category. Their matches should be solid, but are hard to imagine being able to go an extended amount of time.

Should WWE move forward with a Ryback vs. Cena feud, it will be the WWE champ who carries him in terms of their back and forth on the microphone as well.

Cesaro is no Jake Roberts, but his smugness, his self-righteousness and his disdain for America is a perfect fit against Cena.

Ryback promos against Cena will rely heavily on saying "Feed me John!" and on straight-forward aggression. Cesaro is capable of a more nuanced story. He gives the WWE writers a more versatile performer to work with.

The patriotic good guy against the vicious, conceited foreigner is an ideal collision of personalities.

However, a Cesaro vs. Cena feud is going to have to wait indefinitely.

Cesaro has a lot of climbing to do to be Cena's rightful challenger. After being left out of WrestleMania 29, WWE compounded that misstep by leaving the United States champ out of Monday's Raw.

One of the hardest-working men on the roster is being left out of shows which he would improve. Judging by where WWE currently has Cesaro residing on its hierarchy, the company isn't ready for Cesaro to ascend to the main event level.

It appears to be Ryback's spot for now.

Once he's done attempting to finish Cena, it should soon be Cesaro to take his place, for the Swiss superstar to show Ryback how it's done.
