Following on from the news that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson underwent surgery yesterday for injuries sustained during his WrestleMania match with John Cena, one Hollywood heavyweight has stepped in to urge the star to stop wrestling.

Speaking to E! Online at the premiere of bodybuilding crime thriller Pain & Gain, which stars Johnson and Mark Wahlberg, director Michael Bay noted his star's absence from the event, and also offered him some interesting, and slightly scathing, career advice:

"Dwayne's hurt tonight," Bay told us on the red carpet. "He was pushing it too hard. [He] needs to grow up and stop wrestling 300 pound men."

OK, so it might be easy to dismiss Bay's remarks as brash and ill-informed: Rock has wrestled only Cena and CM Punk in the last two months and neither weighs anything close to 300 pounds. And let's not forget: Bay made the atrocity that was Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The man obviously can't be trusted!

However, regardless of what we may think of him, Bay's comments are quite significant.

Mainly because they touch on something that has been discussed in wrestling circles since it came out just how badly hurt Rock was during the WrestleMania bout.

Will the star, who is heavily in demand in Hollywood, face pressure from movie folks to give up his WWE work for the sake of his health?

As I noted in a recent article Rock's wrestling duties could become a major hindrance to his successful acting career, especially since he's become so injury-prone in recent years. Notably, he tore his right hamstring in his first match with Cena at last year's WrestleMania.

Indeed, the star is about to film Brett Ratner's Hercules in May (via ************) and who knows how this recent surgery and rehab will impact on that. And just consider what a highly physical role Hercules will be.

Is Michael Bay right? Is it time for Rock to step away from wrestling?

Of course he's right - shooting 3 films a year or do WWE...but I don't think Rock should "grow up" because wrestling is more art than filming...
