As far as Lyoto Machida is concerned, getting back inside the Octagon as quickly as possible if priority No. 1.
Machida, a former UFC light heavyweight champion, was on-hand Saturday night to witness Jon Jones defend his title against Chael Sonnen. "The Dragon" has been penciled in as the next challenger to the title since defeating Dan Henderson earlier this year.
However, Jones' status is unknown after he broke his big toe in the win. Ed Soares, Machida's manager, talked to MMAjunkie.com about what his fighter wants to do next.
"Lyoto wants to stay sharp and he wants to fight to support his family," Soares said. "Time is going by, and you can never get back time. Lyoto is here to fight. If Jon needs time to heal, then we'd love to face (Alexander) Gustafsson."
A Machida-Gustafsson match could be put together, as "The Mauler" is returning from a pre-fight cut that scrapped a bout with Gegard Mousasi earlier this month.
At one time, Gustafsson was referred to as the No. 1 contender after defeating former champ Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
