Citing that hoariest of excuses, "creative differences," Hollywood legend Al Pacino reportedly broke up with the hotly anticipated "Despicable Me 2" over the weekend, leaving producers of the upcoming animated film seemingly in the lurch. Fans of the immensely popular Steve Carrell-led animated franchise can rest easy, however, as those involved quickly moved on by hiring suave and charismatic "Law & Order" and "Miss Congeniality" hunk Benjamin Bratt to replace him. The evidently cantankerous Pacino was to have voiced the film's central villain. Now, just how in the world such behind-the-scenes drama could be unfolding at seemingly the last minute is completely beyond us; the kiddie flick remains resolutely on track for a July 3rd release.
What do you think, Hitlisters? Would Pacino have made for a memorable villain? Would his patented brand of egregious over-acting have translated well into animation? Could Pacino have bristled when he found out his famous countenance was not to have graced the silver screen, but replaced by the crudely-drawn avatar of a CGI puppet? Will Benjamin Bratt be forced to re-dub all of Pacino's lines, matching his cadence and delivery? Or could the animators possibly do some last-second changes to his character's facial schematics, allowing Bratt literally more room to breathe? Only time—and the finished product—will tell. Until then...
