The feud between Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva will carry over to the reality TV realm, as the two fighters will coach opposite one another on Season 3 of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.”
UFC President Dana White announced the news during Fox Sports Live on Monday evening. Sonnen is scheduled to face Rashad Evans in the UFC 167 co-headliner on Nov. 16, while Silva has been sidelined recovering from a back injury. Sonnen and Silva will square off at an as-yet-to-be determined event in 2014 after “TUF: Brazil” concludes.
It will be the second “TUF” coaching stint for both men: Sonnen went head-to-head with Jon Jones on “TUF 17,” and Silva coached against Vitor Belfort on the inaugural season of “TUF: Brazil.” Tryouts for the show will be held on Nov. 11 in Rio de Janeiro and are open to middleweights, light heavyweights and heavyweights. Filming is expected to begin in early 2014.
Sonnen last appeared at UFC Fight Night 26, where he submitted Mauricio Rua with a first-round guillotine choke. Prior to that victory, the Oregon native failed in his bid to capture 205-pound gold, falling to Jones via first-round TKO at UFC 159.
Silva, meanwhile, is coming off an entertaining second-round knockout of Brian Stann at UFC on Fuel TV 8. “The Axe Murderer” is 4-5 since signing with the UFC in 2007, with victories over Keith Jardine, Cung Le, Michael Bisping and Stann.
