The WWE Network is coming....and as PWInsider covered yesterday, WWE warned the SEC yesterday that it could mean that some of their PPV providers could drop WWE's monthly PPV events.
The first provider to actually publicly draw a line in the sand is DirecTV. In a statement issued to The Los Angeles Times, DirecTV said, "Clearly we need to quickly re-evaluate the economics and viability of their business with us, as it now appears the WWE feels they do not need their PPV distributors."
DirecTV also claimed that the audience for WWE PPV events "has been steadily declining, and this new low-cost competitive offering will only accelerate this trend."
DirecTV pulled then-WWF PPVs from the air in 2001 for many months after the two sides could not come to terms on the renewal of a distribution deal.
