- Forbes has an article looking at if John Cena as WWE Champion is really best for business. The story looks at four of his title reigns since 2009 compared to Randy Orton and CM Punk, and noted that Cena has only been champion during a period of rising revenue once, while the other three reigns have seen WWE's quarterly revenue drop.
The story, which took into account the effect of WrestleMania, added that company income would usually rebound after Cena lost the title. Meanwhile, revenues generally increased during Orton's title reigns. The story, which they admit is "far from a scientific study," noted that revenues were "all over the place" during Punk's title reign which "may be the only proof we need that WWE's in-ring champion doesn't actually have much impact on the company's revenue."
