LOOKING AT THE WWE & TNA WIN/LOSS RECORDS: WEEK 27
DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 27
Welcome to Week 27 of 2014. This week, June ended with Raw. So I hope you enjoyed the Month in Review and stay tuned for the Mid-Year Report looking at the 1st half of 2014. On Tuesday, Main Event started July and the 2nd Half of the year. This week, TNA aired their next One Night Only Pay-Per-View, Global Impact Japan, but as I said before these events are not counted. This is because the shows have been taped and aren’t part of the current storylines. For example, on this show Magnus is still World Champion, therefore, it will not be included in the standings. Now, to this week’s news & notes.
On Raw, we started the show with a re-match from last week, as Rob Van Dam wrestled Seth Rollins. This was the 1st time since The Usos VS Evolution on April 7 & 14 that a match took place 2 weeks in a row on Raw. This was Van Dam’s 1st opener since Raw on June 2, Rollins’ 1st opener since Smackdown on June 20, & the 14th Raw only re-match. Next, we had another re-match as Sheamus & The Usos wrestled The Wyatt Family in a 6-Man Tag Team Match, making it the 2nd match to take place on Smackdown, Main Event, & Raw, in that order 3 times. Their other matches took place on Smackdown on May 2 & Main Event on June 17. Then, Nikki Bella wrestled The Funkadactyls in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 111 overall & 57 for WWE. This was the 1st Handicap Match since Nikki’s last match on Raw, which was on June 2. Then, we saw Kofi Kingston wrestle Cesaro in a re-match from Smackdown on May 30, making it the 15th match to take place on Smackdown & then Raw. This was Kingston’s 1st win since Superstars on May 15 & 1st on Raw since January 13. Then, we had The Great Khali VS Damien Sandow in Khali’s 1st match since NXT on April 17 & 1st on Raw since January 6, when he also wrestled Damien Sandow, making it this a re-match. The re-matches continued as Dolph Ziggler wrestled Fandango for the 3rd time, as they wrestled on Superstars on March 13 & on Raw on May 12, making it the 1st match to take place on Superstars, & then Raw twice. Speaking of re-matches, we saw the 7th re-match between Goldust & Stardust and Rybaxel. They last wrestled at Money In The Bank on June 29, making it the 1st match to be re-matched from the Pay-Per-View. This now started the new streak of matches from the Pay-Per-View being re-matched the next night on Raw. Then, we had an impromptu Diva’s Title Match between Paige and the returning AJ Lee. This was a re-match from Raw on April 7, which was AJ’s last match & the last time that the Diva’s Title changed hands. This was the 2nd night in a row that the Diva’s Title was defended and 10th in 2014, bringing the Title Match count to 86 overall & 52 for WWE & it brought the Title Change count to 17 overall & 10 for WWE. This was the 2nd night in a row that WWE had 2 Diva’s Matches on it. Then, in the main event, John Cena & Roman Reigns wrestled Kane & Randy Orton, which was the 1st time that both teams teamed up. This was Reigns’ 4th main event in a row, Cena’s 1st main event since Raw on June 23 & 3rd Raw main event in a row, Orton’s 2nd week in a row in Raw’s main event, & Kane’s 1st main event since Smackdown on June 27. The match ended in a Disqualification, making it the 3rd week in a row that Raw had a Disqualification.
On Main Event, we started July, with R-Truth & Xavier Woods VS The Wyatt Family, in a 1st time match. This was The Wyatts’ 1st match on Main Event since June 17 & Truth & Woods’ 2nd week in a row on Main Event. Then, we had the 1st time team of Nikki Bella & Alicia Fox against The Funkadactyls. This was the 2nd time that Nikki has teamed up with someone other than Brie, as she teamed with Eva Marie on Smackdown on May 23. This was Naomi’s 1st match on Main Event since June 17, Alicia’s 1st match on Main Event since May 13, Cameron’s 1st match on the show since May 6, & Nikki’s 1st match on the show since April 15. Then, for the 2nd week in a row and 2nd straight night, we had a 6-Man Tag Team Match, with Big E, Rob Van Dam, & Dolph Ziggler VS Cesaro & Rybaxel. This was Rybaxel, Van Dam, & Ziggler’s 2nd week in a row on Main Event, Cesaro’s 1st match on the show since May 13, & Big E’s 1st match on the show since April 22. This was Van Dam’s 1st win since Superstars on June 19 & the 1st time in 2014 that Main Event had only tag team matches.
On NXT, in a re-match from June 12, Colin Cassady wrestled Sylvester Lefort. That date was the last time that Lefort wrestled on NXT, but this was his 1st opener. This was Cassady’s 1st opener since April 17 & 2nd week in a row in action on NXT. Then, for the 1st time, Bayley & Becky Lynch teamed up to face Sasha Banks & Charlotte. This was Becky’s 2nd week in a row, Bayley & Charlotte’s 1st match since June 12, & Sasha’s 1st match on NXT since June 19. This was also Banks’ 1st win since May 1. Then, CJ Parker, in his 1st match since April 17 & 1st win since February 12, wrestled Steve Cutler, in Cutler’s debut. In the main event, Sami Zayn wrestled Justin Gabriel. This was Zayn’s 1st match & main event since June 19 & Gabriel’s 1st match & main event since June 5.
On Impact, we started with a 3-Way Match for the Tag Titles between The Wolves, The Bro-Mans, & The Menagerie. This was the 1st 3-Way Match since Slammiversary on June 15, the 1st Tag Title Match since June 19, & the 9th Tag Title match of 2014. This was The Freak’s in-ring debut, The Wolves’ 1st opener since May 29, Jessie Godderz’ 1st opener since February 27, DJ Z’s 1st opener since February 20, The Menagerie’s 1st opener of 2014, & Knux’s 1st match since June 12. Then, in his 1st match since May 1, Bobby Roode wrestled Kenny King, in the 1st Street Fight since Impact on March 13. Next, we had a Tables Match between Bully Ray & Ethan Carter III, in a re-match from Slammiversary on June 15, making it the 1st match to be a re-matched in July in TNA. This was the 1st Tables Match since Sacrifice on April 27. This along with the 2 earlier matches brought the Gimmick Match count to 114 overall & 58 for TNA. Then, we had our 2nd re-match from Slammiversary tonight, & 3rd overall, as Gail Kim wrestled Angelina Love for the Knockout’s Title, which was the 7th Knockout’s Title Match of 2014, & 1st since June 15. The title changed hands for the 3rd time in 2014, bringing the Title Change count to 18 overall & 8 for TNA. Then, in the main event, Eric Young challenged Bobby Lashley for the TNA World Title. This was the 4th time they wrestled each other, having last wrestled on Impact on June 19, which was the last time that the World Title was on the line, making it the 14th World Title Match of 2014. This was both men’s 1st main event since June 19 & the 1st time that a match took place 4 times only on Impact. This along with the other 2 Title Matches brought the Title Match count to 89 overall & 37 for TNA.
On Superstars, we started the night with the 6th re-match between Big E & Titus O’Neil. They have wrestled on Superstars on April 19, Smackdown on May 2, Superstars & Smackdown on May 30, & Superstars on June 5. This was Big E’s 1st match on Superstars since June 5 & O’Neil’s 1st match on the show since June 12. Then, R-Truth wrestled Alberto Del Rio in a re-match from Main Event on January 29. This was Del Rio’s 1st match on the show since March 13 & Truth’s 2nd week in a row on the show. This was the 1st time since June 12 that someone wrestled 2 weeks in a row & 2nd week in a row that someone competed on both Main Event & Superstars in the same week, as both Big E & Truth competed on both shows.
On Smackdown, we started the night with Sheamus VS Alberto Del Rio for the WWE United States Championship. This was the 1st US Title Match since Payback on June 1 & 7th of 2014, bringing the Title Match count to 90 overall & 53 for WWE. This was Sheamus’ 1st opener since Raw on June 9, Del Rio’s 1st opener since Smackdown on April 18, and the 5th time that they wrestled each other in 2014. Their other matches were on Smackdown on February 28, March, 7, & May 23 and on Raw on May 26. Then, Diego wrestled Bo Dallas, in Diego’s 1st singles match of 2014. Next, we were supposed to get Big E against Cesaro, but the bell never rang, so therefore it doesn’t count. Then, AJ Lee wrestled on Smackdown for the 1st time since March 28, against Eva Marie, in her 1st match since Raw on May 26. Then, Damien Sandow was supposed to wrestle Rusev, but once again, there was no bell, therefore it doesn’t count in the standings. In the main event. Dean Ambrose wrestled Randy Orton. This was Ambrose’s 1st main event since Smackdown on June 13 & Orton’s 2nd straight main event this week. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 2nd time this week that WWE had a Disqualification in the main event, & 2nd week in a row that Smackdown had a Disqualification. This was the 1st time in 2014 that Smackdown had only 4 matches & the 1st time since April 4 that Smackdown had less than 5 matches. That episode was the Smackdown prior to WrestleMania 30, which only had 2 matches. This was the 1st time since June 13 that Smackdown had no tag team matches and only singles matches.
