Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" made $11.2 million with early screenings on Thursday going into Friday, which is a massive number and a sign that there is a ton of interest in the film.
In speaking to a friend who covers the entertainment industry for a living, I was told that "Guardians" was the last "great hope" for the film industry this summer as it's been a very soft season at the box office with very few major studio releases hitting $300 million total.
"Guardians" is expected to kick off a huge franchise for Marvel, which is also great news for Marvel's Studio as it was the biggest risk they have taken since first launching their own cinematic universe with the first "Iron Man" film several years ago.
WWE's Dave Bautista is third billed in the cast, playing Drax the Destroyer.
The film is obviously expected to top the box office this weekend and has gotten extremely great early reviews.
