Big Update on This Year’s Andre the Giant Battle Royal

This year’s Andre the Giant memorial battle royal will be limited to 20 WWE Superstars, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The inaugural match at WrestleMania XXX featured 31 wrestlers.

Last year the match essentially hosted everyone in the undercard and midcard that didn’t already have a match at the biggest show of the year. The planned Intercontinental Championship ladder match looks to be a major reason for the cut-back, as anywhere between 6 to 8 of the company’s most popular talents – including, but not limited to Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose and Bad News Barrett – will be featured in the bout.

I figured that was the way they would go with the IC title, but I have to wonder if this battle royal can sustain popularity when they are putting people that the WWE brass don't give a crap about into the match. Let's face facts here... you might set this up as a platform to push certain guys, but when you haven't been pushing them for years you aren't going to start now.
