In a new update, Cena has been removed from this weekend’s WWE live event calendar to recover from surgery. Cena is no longer appearing on next week’s episode of WWE RAW either. As noted, the goal of the surgery was to correct some breathing issues, and an additional reconstructive surgery was discussed. Cena will need several weeks to heal and will miss some in-ring time, although one source said, “It’s John Cena, you never know” in regards to him returning early.
There is no timetable for Cena’s return, but it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for him to return sooner than expected. Cena famously returned to win the 2008 WWE Royal Rumble in only four months, after tearing a pectoral muscle that was reported to be a 7-12 month stint on the injured list.
Cena is rumored to face WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins at Summerslam on August 23rd, but the card could be influenced by this injury.
