As noted, Billy Gunn was fired from his job as a trainer at the WWE Performance Center over the weekend after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs at a power-lifting competition back in July. WWE was unaware of Gunn’s suspension or the fact that he was active in power-lifting competitions.
Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that it’s believed WWE only tests contracted talent, not the WWE coaches or staff at the WWE Performance Center. This is likely why there was never a negative WWE Wellness test for Gunn.
WWE officials were forced to release Gunn when they became aware of the situation, as they felt they couldn’t have one of their trainers testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs without it making their entire developmental program look bad.
No official decision has been made regarding Gunn’s replacement, however WWE is reportedly considering two people for the job.
