It looks like WWE is in damage control mode after their Reid Flair storyline on last Monday’s RAW. WWE is trying to make it seem that Charlotte came up with the idea, due to the backlash they’ve been receiving.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that a WWE rep told him on the phone that the angle mentioning Reid was Charlotte’s idea, and that she had been wanting to do it for months. The rep from WWE told him “we really didn’t want to do it, but Charlotte was insistent on it.” Meltzer says the rep was lying to him.

With the bad publicity they’ve started getting from the Reid Flair mention, apparently WWE thinks the best thing they could do is to pin it all on Charlotte and have her take one for the team.

As previously reported, the reality here is that the angle was not Charlotte’s decision, and it came from WWE creative. They re-aired the angle on SmackDown and it’s still up on their YouTube channel as of press time.

WWE was also unhappy with Ric Flair for calling them out about the Reid angle on his podcast.

How dare they use the death of a family member to further this weak storyline in the first place. Dropping her brother like they did in a rather awkward promo just seemed like a pitiful attempt to grab at heart strings. Flair was right in saying that Charlotte doesn't have much say this early in her career, even with her Hall of Fame dad having her back. I've been saying for years they need to drop these sitcom writers and bring in some people with knowledge of the industry and the history of pro wrestling so we can have some workable material that meshes with wrestling better.

Instead, they continue to attempt to create drama and emotional stories that would better fit into your typical romantic comedy or standard sitcom on television. On a side note I know Charlotte, much like her Dad, is prone to give into her emotions including crying when it gets the best of her. I hate that they did this in the closing segment of the WHOLE SHOW! This "Divas Revolution" is supposed to showcase how strong and competitive the women in wrestling are, and yet here we see in the closing of the show a blubbering, crying fool holding a championship title and even getting her heel rival noticeably upset and emotional and RUINING the whole angle! Sorry, it kind of breaks immersion when your tough Divas Champion is crying and the person who is supposed to be vying for the title and supposedly HATES HER is getting emotional as well before being forced to snap out of it to keep the promo alive.

Which is another thing... some people can use emotional stories in wrestling and pull some great feuds out of them. Charlotte and Paige have shown they cannot pull a straight face and stay in character when using something close to the hearts of both of them. WWE writers would do well to stay away from that kind of thing in the future and stick to both women just being pissed at each other. If Charlotte is to be a credible and believable Champion she needs to stop crying so much and toughen up. Christ I'd almost have Nikki back as Champion because then we at least had a confident, if not cocky, Champion for the Divas.

So they use a guys dead son in an angle and they get pissed when he's upset? I hate Ric Flair, but the guy has every right to be upset about this. If it was Charlotte's idea then she should have known better and consulted with her family. But at the end of the day everything that happens on WWE tv is the responsibility of Vince McMahon. So he's to blame for this. Cause he hired the creative team that either agreed to do it or wrote it in the first place. He hired the agent that would have been in charge of the segment and he appointed HHH to run Raw.
