As we first mentioned this past Tuesday in the Elite section of PWInsider.com on the We Don't Need No Stinkin' Name Show, there has been talk that WWE will be instituting a new Women's championship, complete with new championship belt, shortly with that title effectively replacing the Divas championship and the "Butterfly" championship.
On Tuesday, we noted that the plan was to to unveil the new belt shortly, possibly as soon as tomorrow's Raw in Dallas. However, with the WWE champion and the winner of the women's Triple Threat match scheduled for NBC's "The Today Show" in the AM, sources over the weekend have stated that the new championship and belt are now slated for tonight's Wrestlemania PPV.
The Divas championship was instituted in 2008 as part of the Smackdown brand and was later unified with the Women's championship in 2010. 26 women have held the Divas championship in that time. The original WWE Women's championship dated back to the mid 1950s.
