Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard blog has published an interview with WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts.
Jake’s battle with addiction is well documented, but at 60 years old, he’s elated to be living a sober lifestyle. He’s using this next chapter of his life to continue working on himself but also help others. Jake told Sports Illustrated that he’s been reaching out to troubled NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel about getting his act together. So far, no luck.
“I just wonder how much more he’s going to have to suffer before he does something about it,” Jake said. “He just made the news again. I’ve been there, I understand, so that’s why I wish he would contact me.”
Regarding WWE Champion Roman Reigns, Jake thinks he’s a great athlete and a great guy, but his rise to the top of WWE has been a mess. “They’re shoving Roman down everybody’s throat, and that’s not working too well,” said Roberts.
Jake would love to work as an agent in WWE, but he doesn’t think he’ll get the opportunity. “I’m more than available, but they’ve got their little formula they want to stick with,” Jake said. The contributions he could make to WWE’s developing talent are immeasurable, but Jake admits that he’d probably ‘piss everybody off’ because he and WWE both have very set ways of doing things.
Jake also put over Bray Wyatt, declaring, “I love the guy.” Jake was backstage at a recent RAW taping and saw Bray, who was having a hard time crafting his promo for the show. Jake told Bray he’s got to stop thinking and don’t change a thing, because he’s got all the tools to be a main event player. “We sat down and, within five minutes, he had about six months of interviews lined up.”
