WWE taped this week’s SmackDown & Main Event at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.
WWE Main Event taping:
– Cesaro def. Curtis Axel: Cesaro won with the Sharpshooter in what was described as a good, lengthy match.
– Apollo Crews cuts a promo in the back about Rusev.
– Baron Corbin def. Sin Cara: Corbin gets the win with the End of Days.
– Goldust and R-Truth def. The Ascension: Tyler Breeze and Fandango were on commentary for this one.
– Rusev def. Apollo Crews: Rusev gets the win after a back-and-forth match with the Accolade. Dolph Ziggler was on commentary for this one.
WWE SmackDown taping:
– Jerry Lawler is back on SmackDown commentary.
– Dean Ambrose comes out with his World Title to kick off the show. He joins the commentary team for the first match-up of the night, which will feature Seth Rollins taking on Jey Uso.
– Seth Rollins def. Jey Uso: Ambrose distracted Rollins at ringside throughout the match. This was described as a decent-length match which Rollins won with the Pedigree. Ambrose rushed the ring after the match, but Rollins retreated up the ramp.
– Zack Ryder def. Sheamus: Ryder got the pinfall victory after a diving elbow drop. After the match, Ryder cuts a promo on the ramp and says he wants to challenge Rusev for the U.S. Title.
– Rusev cuts a promo in the back dismissing Ryder as a legitimate challenger. He says he will defend the U.S. Title on Monday’s RAW.
– Becky Lynch is on her way out for a match when Natalya attacks her from behind. Natalya beats her down at ringside and puts her in the Sharpshooter until referees haul her off.
– Xavier Woods does a sit-down interview in the back talking about his fear of the Wyatt Family. He says he will accompany The New Day to the Wyatt compound.
– Enzo and Big Cass come out and talk about saving John Cena on RAW, and say they’re going to stop The Club any time they try to gang up on someone. AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson come out and cut a heel promo about Cena not showing up to SmackDown, and threaten to beat up Enzo and Cass. They call Cass a “butt nugget,” and we have a match.
– AJ Styles def. Enzo Amore: Styles won what was described as a good match with the Styles Clash. A local sports anchor tweeted that Enzo took a “horrible fall” after catching himself on the ropes on a suicide dive.
– Chris Jericho is backstage looking for his scarf, when Kevin Owens walks on screen wearing it. They exchange words in a brief comedy segment.
– Kalisto takes credit for throwing potato salad on Maryse during the food fight on RAW, and this sets up a match between him and The Miz.
– The Miz def. Kalisto: The Miz won with the Skull Crushing Finale after what was described as a decent match.
– The same clip of Bob Backlund & Darren Young from RAW airs once again. Backlund tells Young he can use his patented Crossface Chicken Wing maneuver.
– Sasha Banks does an interview backstage and gets interrupted by Dana Brooke and Charlotte. Sasha vs. Dana is set up for RAW.
– Sami Zayn def. Chris Jericho: Kevin Owens was on commentary or this one. Owens gets involved at ringside when he threw a drink at Sami, then Sami threw Jericho into Owens. Sami fought off a distraction from Owens and rolled up Jericho for the win. After the match, Jericho lays out Zayn with a Codebreaker, then Owens beats Zayn down and hits a pop-up powerbomb to close out the show
