WWE has commissioned a new Cruiserweight championship belt, according to a report at PWInsider. The current plan is for the Cruiserweight division to premiere on the RAW brand in September, around the time of the Cruiserweight classic finale. At this time, it’s unknown if the championship will be awarded to the Cruiserweight Classic winner. The CWC finale airs live on the WWE Network on September 14th.
WWE is in the process of reaching out to cruiserweight talent for the new division. Two names rumored to be joining the RAW brand’s new division are former ROH Champion Roderick Strong and CWC competitor Cedrick Alexander. Those who watched this week’s CWC saw the crowd chant “Please Sign Cedrick” (Video) after his incredible match with Kota Ibushi.
Speaking of Ibushi, he is scheduled to compete at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.
