Attitude Era tag team The Headbangers are returning to WWE this coming week.
Former WWE tag team champions Mosh and Thrasher broke the news on Friday night that they will be appearing on SmackDown Live this coming Tuesday. With the announcement that the blue brand is holding an 8-team tournament to crown new SmackDown tag team champions, it looks like the metal loving veterans are getting in on the action.
The full tag team tournament field has not yet been announced, but first round matches have seen American Alpha defeating Breezango and The Usos advancing after defeating The Ascension. As per Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon’s orders, the unlikely team of Heath Slater and Rhyno will face “a team still to be named” on this week’s show.
The Headbangers made their WWE debuts back in 1997 and captured gold during their rookie year. Thrasher would later hold the Hardcore championship, while Mosh portrayed the short-lived Beaver Cleavage character before teaming with D’Lo Brown as part of the Lowdown tag team. This will be their first WWE appearances in 15 years.
