WWE announced last week that Randy Orton will get a rematch against Brock Lesnar at the September 24th live event from Chicago. As for why the match is taking place at a house show instead of a pay-per-view main event – as you may have guessed, it comes down to money.
Brock Lesnar’s WWE contract stipulates a lower compensation level for live events than PPV’s. WWE wanted to draw a big house for the Chicago live event and decided to use one of Brock’s limited dates to assure the show is a success.
Additionally, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports Brock Lesnar was given the option to pick his opponent. In light of their recent high-profile SummerSlam main event, The Beast chose Orton because that’s the biggest-money match he could make.
