Earlier this week, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross pitched Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns as the main event of next year’s WrestleMania. In a blog at JRsBarBQ.com, JR wrote, “I like it as it would give Lesnar a one year run as champ which also would necessitate Lesnar working a few more dates on his last year of his current contract. Seems logical to me. Lesnar could defend the title monthly, if required, quite easily on an enhanced albeit manageable schedule.”

As it turns out, that’s exactly what WWE has planned. According to the the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is hell bent on positioning Roman Reigns as “the next John Cena” and he’ll get another crack against Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania next year. From the Observer:

“The plan is to once again build for a year and have the big coronation at WrestleMania. The idea between now and then is for Reigns to be the face, not just when he wins the title, but to fully replace John Cena as the lead babyface of the company.”

“The goal is very much to make Reigns the next Cena, which was the plan for Santa Clara two years ago, until they decided to delay it based on fan reaction.”

In just a few weeks at WrestleMania 33, Brock Lesnar challenges Goldberg for the RAW Universal Championship and Roman Reigns faces The Undertaker. It’s widely expected that Lesnar will finally get revenge on Goldberg and capture the Universal title at Mania. Lesnar defending that championship against Roman Reigns at 34 doesn’t necessarily mean that Lesnar will have a year-long title reign, but it would be an interesting way to elevate that title and build up the significance of whoever dethrones The Beast.

WWE has been positioning Roman Reigns as the company’s next top babyface for 3 years now.

WrestleMania 34 takes place on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Jim Ross is terribly wrong for suggesting that match, but I will say a huge BUT here....

Remember, I believe it was at TLC, when Roman Reigns (after the match) went completely bezerk and just clobbered Triple H? Remember how bad-ass he was? That moment in time made Reigns super over. The fans loved that. THAT was the REIGNS we wanted. It was great for a while, and then they just made Reigns go back to that crappy character. Reigns is an awesome wrestler too. I don't hate Reigns - I hate the writers who have made Reigns in what he is right now. Whoever wrote Reigns as a badass during that stint of TLC were the people we want to be writing the shows. Honestly, I would like to see Reigns get drafted to Smackdown, because lets be honest - Smackdown is the show to watch. I don't if they have different writers than RAW, but for sure, it brings back Atittude Era memories and such. It feels much more real on Smackdown, unlike the fairy tales of RAW. It just seems on RAW they keep beating on a dead horse.

Lesnar. Since he came back, I've despised him. Mainly for breaking the Undertaker's streak. The only thing I can say about him to change, is for him to go back to how he was when he had feuds with Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle. Those were his best times. Not with Goldberg. And Goldberg is great coming back and all. Was an awesome moment to see him, Lesnar and Taker in the same ring, and then Goldberg and Taker fight it out during the Rumble. I didn't expect Goldberg to get the title, but that and the huge large giant paycheck was in the contract for him to come back. Oh yeah and for his son to see it. I'm sure that was top of his list.

WWE can fix Reigns and Lesnar between now and WM34 if they decide to really do this highly rumored match. They need to get the right writers to them in order for it to be a memorable feud. I just hate it when WWE is so predictable. All WWE has to do is to tell its writers to look on social media and scout what people are saying - you can always tell the biggest story of what someone wants in wrestling because it will be posted everywhere. WWE needs to listen to the fans, and tailor the story to what the majority wants instead of just drawing out filler shows and ppvs.

The Royal Rumble was probably my biggest letdown. I was so excited for that match. You would've thought that Balor, Angle, Sting and such would've been one of the big surprises - and it all comes down to the final one - and it's Reigns. I remember feeling my heart sinking and im like what in the hell. It was just a big letdown. If they only could've built Reigns into a hardly spoken badass.

I'm just hoping WM33 doesn't suck.
I'm also pretty sure that the RAW/SD after WM33 will be better than WM33.

They should be building the future of the company on AJ, Balor, Nakamura, Owens, and Roode.....you know, guys with talent.
