Dave Meltzer talked about JBL’s decision to leave the SmackDown Live commentary team on Sunday’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. The belief within the company is that WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler should replace JBL on the SmackDown announce team due to his quality of work.
However, there is a feeling that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has always been hesitant of having Lawler play a central role on television due to his age. Other names that are currently being considered to replace Lawler are Nigel McGuinness or David Otunga.
As of this writing, the sports entertainment company has yet to name JBL’s replacement.
