Last night on RAW, General Manager Kurt Angle confirmed several big RAW vs. SmackDown matches for next month’s Survivor Series, including the Champion vs. Champion main event between Brock Lesnar and Jinder Mahal. Later in the show, Brock Lesnar’s advocate Paul Heyman delivered a masterful promo formally accepted Mahal’s challenge on his client’s behalf.
Following up on a report from PWInsider, Wrestling Observer Radio confirms WWE in fact planning to add a special guest referee for the match. John Cena was a name that was mentioned as a possibility and Bryan Alvarez noted that would make sense in order to set up a feud between Cena and Mahal down the road.
Other names have floated around, however, the job will most likely go to Cena because the other names being considered most likely don’t want to work the match. Bryan Alvarez speculated that Goldberg or Undertaker could fill the role, but Dave Meltzer shot that idea down because both men have already feuded with Lesnar and he doesn’t see them back in WWE any time soon.
With Jinder Mahal being a questionable opponent for The Beast, the dynamic of a guest referee would add some much needed intrigue to the match. Mahal is on record saying that he wants to face John Cena at WrestleMania, so Cena refereeing his match against Lesnar could be used as a vehicle to set up that eventual showdown.
