Having had “unacceptable specimens and documents” rejected by the USPTO in May, PWInsider has reported that Matt Hardy increased his efforts to fight for the legal rights to the “Broken” gimmick which he used to reinvent himself before returning to WWE at Wrestlemania with his brother Jeff.

Jeff Hardy is currently recovering from a shoulder injury which required surgery to support a torn rotator cuff; so Matt Hardy has stepped into matches that haven’t involved a strong, continuous story-line or direction, and it appears as though he needs something new to reinvigorate himself. Putting the long-drawn legal battle with TNA to bed would surely give Matt, and the WWE creative team, some freedom to explore all avenues available to them.

That’s not to say that Matt Hardy has been floating and useless; matches with Braun Strowman and The Miz show a desire to stretch his abilities and continue to be the best he can. It is just unfortunate that the legal proceedings are having an impact on his current career and development in WWE.

To boost his legal efforts, a lawyer specializing in intellectual property has been added to the team representing Matt Hardy based in Nashville. Since the rejected documents in May, new evidence has been presented to the USPTO which they hope to clarify Hardy’s ownership of the “Broken” gimmick. The new evidence is a promotional poster for an event with CWF Mid-Atlantic Wrestling which has not been revealed to the public.
