As noted last week, WWE veteran Randy Orton recently underwent surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his left knee.

The Viper gave a brief statement to WWE.com about the procedure and revealed he’s needed surgery for many months.

“I’ve known I needed the surgery since late last year, but I’ve been waiting for the right time to get my knee cleaned out,” Orton told WWE.com. “Right now was the right time.”

The Viper recently competed at Backlash, losing clean to United States Champion Jeff Hardy. WWE did not give a time frame for his return, but F4WOnline.com notes that he could be back in time for SummerSlam in August if his recovery goes well.

Randy Orton did not travel to Europe for WWE’s latest live events tour, which has now concluded. While he has more schedule flexibility than most WWE Superstars and is not required to work every tour, his knee surgery is the reason he did not travel overseas this time.
