It’s been well documented that there has been a long-standing relationship between Madison Square Garden and the WWE that goes back decades.

There have been rumors of AAA running an event at the world-famous arena held in New York City later this year. For those who may not know, the sports entertainment company has had a lock on the building for many decades in terms of wrestling events.

However, things might be changing as it was reported by Mike Johnson of PWinsider that the historic arena is not happy with the WWE right now due to the fact that the WWE has been holding TV and pay-per-view events at the nearby Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

It was noted in the report that the tipping point appears to have been once WWE announced that all of the Wrestlemania 35 week events in 2019 would be held at the Barclays Center. Those events include the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, NXT Takeover, RAW, and SmackDown Live.

According to the report, MSG has sent feelers out to different groups and they are more open than ever to booking non-WWE events in the arena. Thus, the reason that AAA was able to get a hold on the arena.

For years now, WWE has only held live events twice per year at MSG and it’s been reported in the past that the reason WWE runs the Barclays Center instead of MSG for bigger events is due to the cost of holding an event at MSG as it’s cheaper to hold it at Barclays Center.
