With the WWE U.K. brand show on the horizon, it’s only appropriate to appoint a GM for the show.

Johnny Saint has been chosen as the GM for the WWE’s U.K brand. Saint is a British wrestling legend that had a career that spanned over five decades. A protege of the legendary Bill Robinson, Saint began his career in the 1950’s and is considered a pioneer of technical grappling wrestling in the U.K.

In a 2013 interview with WWE.com, Daniel Bryan cited Saint as a true “wrestlers’ wrestler.” Though perhaps best known for his elaborate and aesthetically pleasing counter-wrestling, Saint also brought a hard edge to the ring, according to Bryan.

“Johnny Saint is somebody who does fancy reversals, but what made him a wrestlers’ wrestler is when he’d get gritty with his wrestling,” Bryan said. “He entertained people through wrestling. He knew a million different holds. He’d go out there and always have fantastic matches. I wrestled him when he was 60-something years old and was still absolutely phenomenal in the ring. He was so good at what he did, technique-wise.”

Once Saint finished his career, he began coaching the next generation of British grapplers. He even spent six months as a coach at the WWE Performance Center in 2017.

Saint’s first job as GM will be to oversee the upcoming U.K. Tournament that will be held on the June 25 and 26 on the WWE Network. More on the tournament here.

It will be interesting to see how the WWE will manage all five brands and what different routes the U.K brand will take.
