It’s come out that the WWE has filed for a number of trademarks last week. The majority of them are for previous wrestling shows, mostly associated with their former-rivals, World Championship Wrestling (WCW).
WWE filed trademarks for the following names:
Saturday Night’s Main Event on 9/24
WCW Saturday Night on 9/24
WCW Thunder on 9/24
NWO New World Order on 9/21
All Star Wrestling on 9/21
WCW Monday Nitro on 9/21
WWE Hidden Gems on 9/21
World Championship Wrestling on 9/21
Halloween Havoc on 9/21
Fall Brawl on 9/21
Starrcade on 9/14
It’s worth noting that the WWE ran a special show entitled Starrcade last year in Greensboro, North Carolina. That show was done under the SmackDown brand, specifically. It was the first Starrcade event under the WWE banner and the first for 17 years.
Starrcade is returning once more this November 24th – once again as a special house show, only this time as a co-branded event with Raw and SmackDown. It takes place at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
It wasn’t just event names that were trademarked. Many superstars also found themselves with newly associated trademarks with the WWE, including Angelo Dawkins, Montez Ford, Otis Dozovic, Tucker Knight, Adam Cole, Danny Burch, and Lars Sullivan.
Though unclear as to what this could mean, having the WWE lock down trademark rights for this group of talent is probably a good sign that the company has future plans for them.
