WWE has announced a big change to one of the top matches at their next event, Royal Rumble.
During this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in Memphis, TN, Braun Strowman chased after Baron Corbin after having a promo segment to the point that Corbin was hiding in Vince McMahon’s limo. Strowman busted out a window and ripped off the door of the limo. This led to McMahon giving a $100,000 fine to Strowman then after Strowman questioned that, decided to remove Strowman from this Universal Title Match against Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble.
Later in the show, McMahon booked a Fatal 4-Way Match in order to determine a new #1 contender. Finn Balor beat John Cena, Drew McIntyre, and Baron Corbin to earn the right to challenge Lesnar for the Universal Title at the Royal Rumble.
Earlier in the day, there had been rumors that a change to this match would be made on this show. As of this writing, there’s no word yet on exactly why the match was nixed. It could be due to Strowman’s elbow injury, which he underwent surgery for last month, as he was not medically cleared to compete.
WWE presents the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event on Sunday, January 27, 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona at Chase Field that will air on the WWE Network. WWE will be announcing more matches for this show in the coming days.
