Last night (Sat. January 26, 2019) former WWE Superstar Jack Swagger (real name Jake Hager) made his mixed martial arts debut. Hager stepped into the cage to face J.W. Kiser on the main card of Bellator 214 from The Forum in Inglewood, California. He made a $50,000 flat fee to step into the cage for the first time in his career.
WWE Superstar R-Truth walked Swagger to the cage, singing him out with a rap song. Once the action got underway, Swagger took Kiser right down to the mat and established dominant position. After some nice ground-and-pound work from the top, Swager locked in an arm triangle choke. Despite not having advanced from half guard, Swagger was still able to finish the choke nonetheless. In his post-fight interview, Swagger was asked how much more of him fans can expect to see in Bellator. Swager responded with a lengthy “A lot!”
It will be interesting to see how Swagger’s MMA career progresses under the Bellator banner. The new heavyweight champion of the promotion will be crowned in the main event of tonight’s Bellator 214 event. If Swagger can keep putting on more performances like tonight, he might have a title opportunity in his near future.
