Chris Jericho’s social media spat with UFC star Conor McGregor is escalating.
Jericho and McGregor recently debated what qualifies an athlete for “Champ Champ” distinction (holding two title belts at once). The debate began shortly after WrestleMania, when Conor posted a congratulatory Tweet to Becky Lynch.
In the Tweet, McGregor referred to Becky as WWE’s first-ever “Champ Champ”. This led a fan to post a photo of Undisputed Champion Chris Jericho with the WWE and WCW World Championships from 2001.
McGregor responded to the fan and explained why he doesn’t feel Jericho qualified as a Champ Champ.
One of these is a WCW belt.
Both belts must be won under the same organization and both titles must be fully unified also.
Interim titles do not make the cut.
The belts must also be held consecutively.
This is for true “Champ Champ” status.
Yours sincerely,
The Champ Champ™

Note the ‘trademark’ sign after the term “Champ Champ” in McGregor’s Tweet.
Jericho then issued the following response to McGregor, explaining that WCW had been absorbed by WWE when he was the Undisputed champion. As a result, both belts were under the WWE umbrella and he qualifies for McGregor’s narrow definition of Champ Champ.
Thanks for the explanation of the rules Champ Champ. But Both belts were won under the same organization, on the same night. Now quit being a mark and move along, junior.

Jericho won the Undisputed Championship at Vengeance in 2001. A one-night tournament was held featuring Jericho, Kurt Angle, Steve Austin, and the Rock. Jericho defeated the Rock in the 1st round and Austin in the finals to win the titles. He would eventually drop the belts at WrestleMania X8 to Triple H.
This is not the first time Jericho has responded to Conor on social media either. Shortly after Conor insulted WWE fans in 2016, Jericho responded as well. Jericho seemed to imply in his response that in his universe, MMA is pre-determined and pro-wrestling is a legitimate sport.
Sorry pal no disrespect to u, but my fights are legit, unlike the fixed fights u have in @UFC. I’ll embarrass u.
