Marine Box Office, Cena "The Fat Chick Thriller", Unforgiven Buy Total
BoxOfficeMojo.com is reporting that The Marine pulled in an estimated $2,250,000 on Friday, which seems to be in line with expectations. It finished in 6th place for the day.
Also, in a correction from yesterday, The Marine actually cost $23 million to make, not including advertising costs. Several movie websites say that it cost $15 million to make, but The Wrestling Observer is reporting that it actually cost $23 million. The movie would need to generate at least $25-30 million in domestic ticket revenue, and then pick up another $15-20 million in DVD sales and international ticket revenue, or else it could turn out be a huge money loser for World Wrestling Entertainment.
It looks like John Cena has stolen Mike Awesome's "Fat Chick Thriller" gimmick. John Cena appeared on The Adam Carolla Show radio show yesterday and he that said that if The Marine finished number one in the box office for the weekend, a 300 pound lady would "get some." Earlier in the week, Cena appeared on The Howard Stern Show and he claimed that he had recently had sex with a woman who weighed 280 pounds. Although, Cena said that it was actually a challenge put out to him from the other guys. Nonetheless, he said that he had a good time. Cena followed that up by saying that he would have sex with Star Jones if he had the chance.
WWE's corporate website released the initial PPV buy total for Unforgiven 2006 and it came out at 285,000 buys. This is already ahead of last year's total as the initial figure did approximately 225,000 buys and the final total was approximately 260,000 buys. Unforgiven is currently the second most purchased single brand WWE PPV of the year behind the Great American Bash PPV, which is being reported at 330,00 buys. Unforgiven is slightly ahead of ECW One Night Stand 2006.
