Former NXT Star Elias has been away from the ring from the past few weeks due to an ankle injury, though latest reports suggest that he won’t remain out of action for very long.
Dave Meltzer provided some update on the Drifter’s status in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter and revealed that he is expected to return to action in late October.
Despite the injury, Elias has not been off TV completely and this week’s episode of SmackDown Live saw him starting a new feud with Chad Gable.
The former NXT star appeared on the titantron after Gable’s match with Mike Kanellis and started talking trash. However, due to his injury, these two stars are not expected to face each other inside a ring in the near future.
Prior to his injury, Elias was competing in the King of The Ring tournament and he had made it to the semi-finals after defeating Kevin Owens and Ali in different matches.
However, on September 10, WWE announced that the SmackDown star was dealing with an ankle injury and so he was not cleared to compete in the tournament further.
Shane McMahon then replaced him in a semi-final match against Chad Gable. Gable went on to defeat Shane but he lost in the finals to Baron Corbin.
