Kevin Owens will remain on WWE SmackDown for the foreseeable future as he has defeated Shane McMahon.

Owens did so when he won a Ladder Match on the premiere episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, which marked the 20 Anniversary Show, on FOX from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The stipulation was of “loser leaves WWE.” The belief is that this was done to not only wrap up the program but to get McMahon off of television.

The storyline between Owens and McMahon started on an episode of SmackDown Live in August where Owens cut a promo about how McMahon takes up too much TV time and nobody wanted to see him on TV all the time.

Many fans thought that this was similar to the famous CM Punk “pipebomb” promo from a few years ago.

Owens also said in the promo that having to listen to Shane being called the Best in the World every week makes him want to bang his head on the table every week.

This led to Owens beating McMahon in a singles match at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event in August.

Fast forward to last month, Owens was “fired” after McMahon tapped out to Chad Gable in their King Of The Ring semi-final Match where Owens was serving as the special guest referee.
