With WWE heading back to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for their next pay-per-view event, Crown Jewel, soon, speculation as to whether there will be a women’s match has increased.
This is something that a fan asked Dave Meltzer on Twitter where he noted that there are no plans for women to wrestle at Crown Jewel:
“Unless something changes, there are no women’s matches scheduled. It came down to the wire last time and they were told no at the end, after bringing Nattie and Alexa to Saudi Arabia.”
In the days leading up to the WWE Super ShowDown event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia earlier this year, there was talk about WWE having Alexa Bliss and Natalya work a match at the show.
The pitched match was not approved by the Saudi Arabian government despite them indicating to WWE they could have their first women’s match on this show, but then wavered on it.
WWE even had the women fly to the country. At the last show, Renee Young was able to do commentary but there’s no word yet on if she’ll be working as a backstage interviewer on this show.
