WWE Superstar turned Hollywood heavyweight John Cena has pledged $500,000 to the first responders to the recent California wildfires.

Cena plays a firefighter in the new comedy film, Playing With Fire, which hits theaters November 8th. A brief synopsis reads, “Nothing can prepare these elite firefighters for their most challenging job yet: babysitting.” The trailer can be seen below.

Monday was National First Responders Day, a holiday that recognizes the heroic men and women who put their lives on the line to assist when disasters strike. To commemorate the special day, Cena announced he would donate half a million dollars to charities supporting first responders.

John Cena announced on Monday that he is making a donation of $500,000 to a charity of Paramount Pictures’ choosing, as long as it aids first responders of the country. Cena gave Paramount Pictures (co-producers of Playing With Fire) the chance to chose the recipients.

I’m asking that today on #FirstRespondersDay we do everything we can to help those who risk their lives to protect us all.

Paramount selected the California Fire Foundation and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. Cena called them “two incredible choices” and announced, “On behalf of Paramount and the cast of #PlayingWithFireMovie, a total of $500K is coming your way. Thank you for what you do. Help is on the way!!!”
