Several WWE Superstars have requested their release from the company in the last few months. In some cases, such as with Shawn Spears, KENTA and Dustin Runnells, the releases were granted. In other cases, however, the requests have not been granted and the talent is left to wait out the remaining time on their contract.
In an update to WWE’s policy on granting releases, it is being noted by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that some wrestlers may receive their release from the company.
“It was noted that they may be giving releases to some people with the idea they don’t believe they would be going to AEW, or if they do, wouldn’t help them, and it is possible he will get his release.”
Oney Lorcan is the latest WWE Superstar to request his release. Sin Cara is also reported to have asked for his release recently.
Other wrestlers to have requested their release from the company in 2019 include Mike Kanellis, ACH, and Luke Harper. As of this writing, none of their releases have been granted.
