Fans picked up on the fact that CM Punk referenced his WWE release in a post on social media.

He made the comment when he noticed on Twitter that WWE was hyping the wedding segment between Lana and Bobby Lashley on this Monday’s episode of RAW on the USA Network.

The comment was about his own firing from the company when he was given his termination papers on his wedding day with former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee.

He told the story during his appearance on Colt Cabana’s podcast a few years ago.

Be a real shame if someone gets fired.

Nah. I just have a dark sense of humor.

Punk has signed with FOX to be a special correspondent and he is not going to be on WWE Backstage full-time while Renee Young and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T will be the hosts of the show. Punk is not under contract with WWE as noted with his reference.

In fact, in a response to a media outlet, Punk noted that he wouldn’t be on the WWE Backstage show until January 21st.

After dealing with injuries and not wanting to wrestle anymore, Punk decided to walk out of the company on the Monday following the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in 2014.

It should be noted that despite the previous bad blood between WWE and Punk as well as the fact that Punk isn’t under contract with WWE, never say never in the world of pro wrestling. Regarding a potential wrestling return, Punk has not completely shut out the possibility of wrestling again.

He has made it known that he’s always been open to it but for him to wrestle again would need to see him receive a big payday. Whether that happens remains to be seen.
