Adam Cole was not dethroned as WWE NXT Champion by The Velveteen Dream as he was able to retain his title.
WWE closed Wednesday’s episode of NXT on the USA Network in Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University with Cole making his latest title defense against Balor.
This match saw Cole successfully retain the NXT championship. It served as the main event and was a back and forth affair.
WWE set up this contest over the last few months on NXT television. There had been some speculation on WWE possibly taking Dream out of the title scene due to recent accusations.
As noted, Dream has stated on social media that he denies the allegations and he’s having a third party looking into the matter.
Last month, Cole became the longest-reigning NXT Champion and did so by breaking Finn Balor’s record of 292 days.
Cole’s previous title defense came against Tommaso Ciampa in the headliner of the WWE NXT TakeOver: Portland event from the Moda Center back in February.
