After being eliminated from the Intercontinental Championship tournament by Daniel Bryan on Smackdown last week, Drew Gulak parted ways with WWE. A few different reports surfaced online in the wake of Gulak’s departure from the company. It was first reported that Gulak had been released and then later that his contract had run-out and he had not been re-signed. According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live, however, an offer WWE put on the table to Gulak to re-sign was pulled after he asked for more money.

“What happened was he was negotiating a new contract and the contract expired after Smackdown and he had wanted a raise,” Alvarez said. Alvarez then noted that before the pandemic, WWE had been granting raises to people who re-signed.

“So, Drew Gulak asked for a raise,” Alvarez continued. “They said ‘no’ and then they pulled the contract offer. So, if you want to argue that he wasn’t actually released, you’re welcome to because his contract did expire but they let him go because he wanted more money.”

It is also being reported that Gulak’s contract negotiations with WWE are not dead and that he could still return to the company.

Gulak came into WWE in 2016 following the Cruiserweight Classic. He is a former Cruiserweight Champion having held the title from June to October in 2019.
