Following the taping of his WWE Backlash matchup against Randy Orton, rumors had been rife that Edge suffered an unfortunate injury. These rumors were later confirmed by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select. With Edge having torn his tricep during the taping of “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” WWE is now forced to change its alleged SummerSlam plans.

Randy Orton emerged victorious from their matchup during last night’s pay-per-view. Given that Edge won their WrestleMania 36 bout, Orton’s Backlash victory set up a potential rubber match between the Superstars. A tricep injury, however, would scupper any immediate plans for the two to tangle a third time.

At the time of writing, neither WWE nor Edge have confirmed the injury. Depending on the severity of the injury, “The Rated R Superstar” could potentially be out for between 4-8 months. It is unknown whether the injury will require surgery or not.

Whatever rubber match may have been planned between the former Rated RKO partners will be in limbo until Edge is well enough to return to in-ring action. It also forces WWE to create a new feud for Randy Orton heading into Extreme Rules and beyond.

This injury comes at a time when WWE is without some of its biggest Superstars, including Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch, and Bray Wyatt. Edge’s clash with Orton was only his third match back in WWE since coming out of retirement.
