WWE had plans in the works for Marina Shafir, but that has been nixed as WWE released her on Friday afternoon.
Pwinsider.com reports that WWE had plans to change her ring name and there were some pitches about the new name in recent weeks in addition to the plans for her. It was said her release came as a surprise.
She signed with WWE back in May 2018 and last wrestled on WWE 205 Live on January 29 when she teamed with Zoey Stark for a loss to Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart in a tournament match for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles.
She was seen with her husband, Roderick Strong, several weeks ago on an episode of NXT TV when there was a backstage segment where Strong said he was “done” with the brand. However, this past Tuesday night, he returned as part of The Diamond Mine, but Shafir was nowhere to be seen.
Killian Dain, The Bollywood Boyz (Sunil Singh, Samir Singh), Arturo Ruas, Curt Stallion, Fandango, Tyler Breeze, Ever-Rise (Chase Parker, Matt Martel), Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari, and August Grey were also released Friday.
Shafir has yet to publicly comment on her release.
