Friday’s live WWE SmackDown season premiere drew an average of 2.147 million viewers on FOX, according to Nielsen, via Showbuzz Daily.
This final number is up 5.56% from the overnight viewership that was released on Saturday morning, which was an average of 2.034 million viewers. This number is down 4.66% from last week’s final viewership of 2.252 million viewers for the Draft Night 1 and post-Extreme Rules episode.
Friday’s SmackDown drew a 0.52 rating in the key 18-49 demographic. This is down 16.12% from last week’s 0.62 rating.
SmackDown ranked #1 in ratings for the key 18-49 demographic on network TV, for the third week in a row, but tying with Shark Tank on ABC. SmackDown ranked #2 in the 18-34 demo this week, for the second week in a row. SmackDown ranked #1 in the 25-54 demo, for the second week in a row. SmackDown came in at #7 for the night in viewership on network TV, up from last week’s #8 spot. Blue Bloods on CBS topped the night on network TV in viewership this week with 5.999 million viewers.
The MLB Division Series game between the Dodgers and the Giants on TBS topped the night on the Cable Top 150 with a 1.08 key demo rating. The MLB Division Series game on TBS also topped the night on cable in viewership with 3.982 million viewers.
Friday’s SmackDown drew the lowest key demo rating since fans returned to the live crowd. Friday’s viewership was up 5.48% from the week before, while the key demo rating was up 12.72% from the week before.
Viewership for Friday’s SmackDown episode was down 1.4% from the same week in 2020, while Friday’s 18-49 key demo rating was down 13.3% from the same week in 2020.
Friday’s live SmackDown season premiere episode from the the SAP Center in San Jose, CA had just a few happenings advertised ahead of time – Sami Zayn vs. Rey Mysterio in a first round King of the Ring Tournament match, Liv Morgan vs. Carmella in a first round match for the inaugural Queen’s Crown Tournament, plus a WWE Crown Jewel contract signing with Sasha Banks, Bianca Belair and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.
